30 Characters 2013 #1- Jasper Asteroid

There is a certain neighborhood that finds itself often menaced by a certain stray cat who sort of looks like a pirate. When said stray cat continues to get the better of local animal control, the situation captures the notice of Jasper Asteroid. Jasper is a cat behaviorist by day, rock band french horn player by night, and happens to have his own TV show about dealing with unruly cats.
Will Jasper be able to sort out CatBeard's issues, or will he have finally met his match?

Anastasia

I'll tell you something. I've never respected the 'draw so-and-so' segments in any animated feature's special features offerings. But we actually followed along with one recently in my Character Design and Development class. Our teacher put in Don Bluth's "Anastasia" DVD and fired up the special features and had us draw alongside the big Donny himself. Don walked us through drawing Anastasia. Here's mine:

Time to get studious!

CosmiCat and the gang will be making an appearance in the Auburn Hills campus of Baker College on  October 24th. We’ll be selling copies of CosmiCat and Science Girl, with a portion of the sales going to benefit the Animation Club. https://www.facebook.com/groups/170600792951303 Hey, does this mean that these comics count as textbooks?

Handy AND Smurfy!

Handy Smurf sketch card. I prefer him in his impractical white overalls, even if it is after Labor Day.
Handy Smurf is the focal point of why I think Smurf society is unfair. While Clumsy Smurf is recovering in the insmurfery and Lazy Smurf is taking a nap, Handy's out there hour after hour, day after day; involved in any project that might require some kind of competence. It just ain't smurf, I smurf ya.

"I hate sketch cards!"

Grouchy Smurf sketch card
I was in first grade in 1981, and hoo-whee did I love me some Smurfs. I think I was a Smurf for Halloween that year. One of my friends had a lame-o plastic sheet PacMan costume, but I was a cool blue Smurf. I think I was in second grade as well. Then I was Mickey Mouse for Halloween in third grade. Egads, what was wrong with me? I finally got with it and was a pirate in 4th grade and a vampire in 5th.
But anyway, yeah. I drew a Grouchy Smurf sketch card tonight.

I strongly urge you to look at the old, original Smurfs comics, currently being reprinted by Papercutz. They're great stuff, even if the old cartoon or new movies aren't really to your liking. Oh, and by the way Papercutz, I'm certainly no Peyo, but I'm open to discussion if you're looking for people to work on NEW Smurfs comics. Just putting that out there!

Rock for Kids

Rock for Kids!

Rock for Kids charity cards! These will be auctioned off on Ebay later this year for the benefit of hospitalized kids. Since they were to be musician themed, I couldn't help but draw Weird Al and some Aquabats. For the Aquabats, I chose MC Bat Commander and Crash McLarson since they're the two mainstays of the group.

Green Brain Comics in Dearborn, MI is, as usual, going all out on Free Comic Book Day. There will be a slew of talented artists (and me, for some reason) on hand to sell comics, draw pictures, chit chat about comics and generally kick up a ruckus!
Gearing up for the big day, Green Brain is holding a t-shirt design contest. Several designs will be chosen for display in their Headspace Gallery, while one design will be selected for use as the OFFICIAL Green Brain Comics Free Comic Book Day 2013 t-shirt. CatBeard will be showing some enthusiasm as my entry into the contest this year.

CatBeard: McPlunder 02

Last time, Sammy and Dad’s new walkie-talkies were nowhere to be found. Looks like they’ve been purr-loined by that scourge of the suburbs, CatBeard and his first mate Durdee Rat! Now said radios are being used for a nefarious dinner interception.

CatBeard: McPlunder page 01

Welcome to CatBeard: McPlunder! A short CatBeard adventure. Enjoy!

Hershey and Smokey

Hershey and Smokey! I was trying to capture the classic cartoon title card feel- like where they'd show Mickey's head with a big starburst behind it.
"You da man!" "No, YOU da man!" "Oh no, YOU da man!"

Squirrel Spy

I'm working on some character designs. Here's one I really REALLY like. Look at his little squirrel brass knuckles!
